Werribee Mercy Hospital is looking for experienced Cleaners to join our Environmental Services team. This is casual work with real hours—day shifts, afternoon shifts, night shifts, and weekends across a seven-day roster. You will be an essential part of a busy public hospital, ensuring every ward, corridor, and patient space meets the rigorous Victorian Cleaning Standards.

Key Responsibilities
You will be based at Werribee Mercy Hospital, working across a fast-paced, 24-7 healthcare environment.
- Perform all cleaning duties required for the effective provision of environmental services throughout the hospital, strictly in accordance with the Victorian Cleaning Standards for healthcare facilities .
- Operate commercial cleaning equipment including floor scrubbers and polishers safely and efficiently (essential competency).
- Clean and maintain patient rooms, clinical areas, corridors, waiting rooms, offices, bathrooms, and staff facilities.
- Follow strict infection prevention and control protocols this is healthcare, not standard commercial cleaning.
- Restock consumables including hand hygiene products, paper towel, and toilet supplies.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or equipment faults promptly to supervisory staff.
- Carry out additional duties as directed by your supervisor or site management.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team that includes nursing, clinical, and support staff.
Shift pattern: Casual positions. Monday to Sunday. Day, afternoon, and night shifts available. Weekend work required. Flexibility to rotate across shift patterns is expected.
Qualifications
You are resilient, compassionate, and have a whole lot of heart. But you also need specific, verifiable skills to work in a hospital environment.
You must have:
- Recent experience as a commercial cleaner with demonstrated competency operating floor scrubbers and polishers (essential). This is not an entry-level role.
- Physical capability to undertake manual cleaning tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise your workload in a busy, unpredictable environment.
- Good time management and organisational skills – you complete tasks within shift timeframes without compromising quality.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills – you can follow instructions, report issues, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility and initiative – hospital priorities change rapidly. You adapt without complaint.
- Legal right to work in Australia.
It is highly desirable if you have:
- Previous experience in hospital or hospitality environmental services (you understand healthcare-specific cleaning protocols).
- Current Police Record Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with Victorian public health orders (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement).
