Key Responsibilities
You will perform essential skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain the city’s streets and related infrastructure, responding to both routine and emergency needs.
- Safely operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles, including dump trucks with snowplows, excavators, backhoes, loaders, and specialized tools for road repair and maintenance.
- Perform repairs to public infrastructure, such as patching asphalt, replacing damaged concrete sidewalks and curbs, and installing street signs and posts.
- Actively participate in the department’s rotating on-call schedule, mandatory overtime, and emergency response for severe weather events, including snow and ice removal operations.
- Respond professionally to resident inquiries and concerns regarding public works issues in the field.
- Adhere to all safety standards and procedures while performing physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions.
This position requires specific credentials, physical ability, and relevant experience to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Qualifications
Required Licenses and Education:
- A valid Missouri driver’s license and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements are required as a condition of employment.
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Required Experience and Physical Ability:
- Two years of experience in general construction, maintenance, repair, and equipment operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The ability to perform sustained physical labor, including lifting over 100 pounds, operating heavy hand tools, and working outdoors in extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather for extended periods.
