Key Responsibilities

As an instructor, you will be pivotal in maintaining and elevating our Sterile Processing Service standards. Your core duties will include:

  • Developing and conducting comprehensive training programs for sterile processing staff on correct procedures, protocols, and safety standards.
  • Providing hands-on instruction and guidance to ensure staff competency in decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of medical equipment.
  • Evaluating staff performance, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective training plans.
  • Staying current with the latest industry standards, regulations, and technological advancements in sterile processing.
  • Maintaining accurate training records and documentation in compliance with VA policies and accrediting bodies.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert and resource for the department, assisting with complex processing questions and quality assurance initiatives.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly knowledgeable and communicative professional with the following:

  • Extensive, hands-on experience in a Sterile Processing Department within a hospital or surgical setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of sterile processing principles, standards (AAMI, ANSI), and protocols for various sterilization methods (steam, ETO, hydrogen peroxide, etc.).
  • Proven experience in training, mentoring, or instructing staff in a technical or clinical environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to teach complex concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) is highly desirable.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for employment with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
