Travel Assistant Required In Japan

The 35th Force Support Squadron at Misawa Air Base in Japan is seeking a customer service representative for the Information, Tickets, and Travel (ITT) Office. In this flexible position, you’ll assist military personnel, their families, and other authorized patrons with leisure activities, travel arrangements, and local information. About the Position

Working in the ITT Office means being the go-to person for patrons looking to explore Japan and beyond. You’ll sell tickets to events, arrange tours, book travel, and provide cultural and recreational information. This role is perfect for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and genuinely enjoys connecting people with memorable experiences. You’ll also help maintain social media presence, prepare materials for tours, and occasionally serve as an escort. It’s a varied role where no two days are the same, and your bilingual skills will be essential in bridging communication between English-speaking patrons and Japanese services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons by providing information on leisure activities, selling tickets, making reservations, and arranging special accommodations for tours, sporting events, theaters, and special events.
  • Help individuals and groups plan travel, including commercial transportation, hotel reservations, car rentals, and vacation packages via internet e-ticketing.
  • Provide information on tour itineraries, train and bus schedules, ferry passes, boat cruises, camping locations, ski resorts, recreational parks, sight-seeing tours, shopping excursions, festivals, fairs, and cultural events.
  • Collect fees, issue receipts, and ensure revenue is accurate and properly processed.
  • Operate travel reservation terminals and equipment, coordinating tour guides and escorts as needed.
  • Prepare materials for drivers, tour guides, and escorts for assigned trips.
  • Occasionally perform escort duties on tours.
  • Maintain inventory of brochures, maps, and flyers for patron use.
  • Request toll pass tickets and prepare month-end fuel reports.
  • Advertise tours on AFN Radio and assist in maintaining ITT social media sites.
  • Complete all necessary phone calls and forms for booking reservations, ensuring customers are advised of all pertinent information and procedures.
  • Perform related administrative support duties and provide translation services for customers with individual travel plans.
  • May work an uncommon tour of duty including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Experience providing practical knowledge of travel industry rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Japanese.
  • Skill in dealing with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Computer experience and ability to learn the e-ticketing process.
  • Well-organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.

Preferred Experience:

  • Retail sales experience providing technical knowledge of salesmanship is highly desirable.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background check.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have a valid passport.
  • Non-U.S. Citizens must have resided physically in the United States or a U.S. Territory for at least 3 years prior to employment.
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for a minimum of 3 years.
